Sales are the best in over a decade
Volvo Cars is pretty proud this month after recent numbers have shown a massive growth increase in sales in the United States.
On Aug. 2 Volvo Car USA LLC reported that 8,795 vehicles were sold in the United States in the month of July — a 2% increase when compared to the same time period in 2018. Year to date, the automaker has sold 58,915 vehicles. That is a 4.7% increase when compared to the year 2018.
The proof is in the statistics. The Volvo XC40 has become one of the company’s crowning achievements, boasting a 36% percent increase in sales by way of the sale of 2,072 cars sold. The S60 is also in the group, posting a 31% sales increase from the same period last year by way of 1,081 vehicles sold. The most popular car sold in July, however, was the XC90. Volvo said 2,776 cars were sold in that model, showing a 16% improvement from the previous calendar year.
“The team has done an amazing job in July, posting the best mid-summer numbers since July 2007.” Anders Gustafsson, president and CEO of Volvo Car USA & Senior Vice President Americas, said in a press release.
Automotive World reports that global sales have also continued to grow at a steady pace, with a 7.1% increase in July when compared with the same period last year. Total sales during July showed 54,546 cars being sold worldwide, with the regions of China, United States and Europe all reporting a growth in volume of sales.
In the period between January and July, Volvo’s total sales reached 395,372 — that is a 7.3% increase compared with the same period last year.
“The company’s latest models — the V60 Estate, the US-made S60 sedan and the V60 Cross Country — also contributed to the volumes,” Automotive World said.
They added that sales in Europe were 25,518 cars in the month, or a 4.8% jump when compared with the same period last year. The XC40 was the top-selling model in the region in Europe in July, followed by the XC60.
In China, sales escalated to 24.9% growth as 12,639 cars were purchased. It was led by consumers fawning over locally-produced models, like the XC60 and S90. The XC40, which recently started local production, also contributed to volume growth.
The news comes on the heels of a 0.7% increase in June when compared with the year 2018, as almost 10,000 vehicles were sold.
“The first half of 2019 was Volvo’s best U.S. performance in 12 years,” Gustafsson said. “June was a great month, topping a monthly record set back in June 2006.”
